The Government of Central Kalimantan Province organized a media gathering event in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan on 25 February 2019. Supported by GGGI, the event was attended by the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government Secretary, Fahrizal Fitri who represented Sugianto Sabran, the Governor of Central Kalimantan. This event invited Central Kalimantan based journalists and media to further promote the Green Growth Program, increase media exposure and ensure accurate representations in the media, as well as to improve good relations between Green Growth Program Team with media in Central Kalimantan.
Attended by 14 media representatives, this event was held on a cruise along the Kahayan River in Central Kalimantan. During the event, Fahrizal Fitri conveyed the commitment of Central Kalimantan Provincial Government to carry out sustainable development in all sectors including to develop government strategies and policies that support it. This is in line with green growth objectives to improve social and economic welfare of the community, as well as significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological impacts for the future generations.
Besides explaining the importance of green growth as a main approach towards an inclusive and sustainable economy, achievements of collaboration between Central Kalimantan Provincial Government and GGGI was also presented. One of which is capacity building in two districts, Murung Raya and Pulang Pisau. The Government of Central Kalimantan Province together with GGGI have published Murung Raya and Pulang Pisau Green Growth Strategy in 2015. Other achievements include technical assistance in the preparation of 2018-2023 Regional Medium-Term Development Plan for five districts (Murung Raya, Pulang Pisau, Kapuas, Katingan and Lamandau).
The Green Growth Program has also contributed to the establishment of Forest Management Unit (FMU) Center in Central Kalimantan as well as supported the development of Long-Term Forest Management Plan. As part of the Green Growth Program, GGGI has facilitated the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government to develop the 2018-2050 Regional Energy Plan. GGGI has also provided technical assistance of development and validation for Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEA) of the Regional Medium-Term Development Plan in Central Kalimantan Environment Agency in 10 districts/cities.
