Accelerating P4G’s Partnerships and Indonesia’s Leadership in Green Growth and 2030 Global Goals

The Government of Indonesia continues to increase its commitment to address climate and sustainable development challenges. One of the efforts to overcome these challenges is by launching the first Green National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN 2020-2024) in 2020 where Low Carbon Development and Climate Resilience is stated as one of the national priorities in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The implementation challenges in the Green RPJMN’s first year have become even more real with the global pandemic. Currently, Indonesia has entered a “new normal” phase which needs to be aligned with the new perspectives to achieve a greener recovery by taking into account the assessment of economic, social and environmental balances to promote low carbon development.

The Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) national platform launched in 2020 is expected to assist the acceleration of the national agenda in terms of increasing creative financing, facilitating the private sector in supporting national and global goals, utilizing cooperation—for example, through the SDGs Financing Hub, becoming a pioneer in achieving quality growth and, last but not least, applying a multi-stakeholder collaboration.

The 2021 P4G Seoul Summit pre-event opening began with a remark from the Minister of Environment of Denmark Lea Wermelin, followed by the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Korea Jeoung-ae Han, and was opened by the Minister of National Development Planning (Bappenas) Suharso Monoarfa. Results from the first session confirmed that P4G will be expected to facilitate capital transformation to the market to overcome financial challenges so it can support the achievement of SDGs and Paris Agreement at the global and national levels. Furthermore, from the second session, P4G will be projected as a forum to achieve the climate goals and SDGs. The 2021 P4G Seoul Summit pre-event was an introduction to the P4G Seoul Summit to be held in May 2021.
